The City of Algona bills monthly for water and sewer services. Some residences located on the border of the City limits may be billed for any of these services by another agency such as the City of Pacific or SeaTac Disposal. Following is more information about these services.

Water Services

The City of Algona serves approximately 920 residential and 45 commercial water accounts. The Public Works Department is responsible for servicing and maintaining the City’s water mains and meters. The City of Algona purchases water wholesale from the City of Auburn through an inter-local agreement.

A flat rate charge of $21.54 is billed per month. Please note that actual water consumption is billed every other month for the last TWO MONTHS of water service. Depending on your individual water usage, the water portion of your utility billing may be slightly higher every other month. An additional $2.00 is charged for every 100 cubic feet (c.f.) of water consumed in in excess of 1000 cubic feet.

Sewer Services

Residential sewer service is $37.07 per month. Algona retains $9.12 of the sewer charge for maintenance and operations. $27.95 is passed on to King County METRO for treatment.

Storm Drainage

The storm drain utility charge is $4.75 per month. This amount supports maintenance and improvements made to Algona’s Storm Water drains, channels and facilities.

Garbage

Garbage service is mandatory in Algona. The City of Algona contracts with Waste Management for garbage and curbside recycling services. Waste Management bills directly for these services. Yard waste services are also available.

What services does the City of Algona bill for?
Depending on where you live, you might receive City bills for water, sewer, and storm drainage services. Some residents that live on the boundary of City limits may receive some of their utility services from the City of Pacific or Auburn.
When are my bills due?
Utility bills are due upon receipt and considered delinquent after thirty (30) days. A ten (10%) penalty is assessed on the forty-fifth day on balances over five ($5.00) dollars. On the third Wednesday of every month disconnect notices are personally served to all past due accounts notifying the resident of impending shut off for the following Wednesday. A fifteen ($15.00) dollar charge is assessed to cover the costs of these notices. Please check the City’s monthly calendar enclosed with your utility bill for a schedule of delinquency activities.
Can I make payment arrangements on my utility billing?
ABSOLUTELY! However, the City can only accept payment arrangements from the property owner as water, sewer, and storm drainage are a public utility. This means that the utility billing remains with the property and unlike private utilities does not move with the person. Just call (253) 833-2897 and ask to make “will pay” arrangements on your utility account, we’d be happy to assist you. If you are a tenant, the City may accept payment arrangements in writing ONLY from the property owner. The arrangements must state the date and amount in which the billing will be paid and must be signed by the property owner.
Where do I make my payments?
Payments can be made either by mail, in person, or placed in our after hours night depository located on the front of City Hall.
Why does my bill fluctuate from month to month?
The City bills for utilities on a monthly basis, however actual water consumption is billed every other month. The base rate for water allows a monthly minimum water consumption of five-hundred cubic feet of water. When actual water consumption (for the last two months of water service) is billed you be billed an additional charge for each one-hundred cubic feet used over one-thousand cubic feet. What form of payments does the City accept? At this time the City accepts checks, money orders and cash only. Currently, we are unable to accept credit/debit cards. Checks should be mailed to:

I had a water leak, can I receive an adjustment?
If you have a leak, you can apply for a rate adjustment for water services for any single billing period. The leak must occur in the water service line between the water meter and the residence. The City does not give leak adjustments for running toilets or faulty plumbing inside the home.The rate adjustment shall not exceed fifty percent (50%) of the difference between the total amount of the billing period sought for adjustment minus the customer's average water usage. The rate adjustment can only be applied to one billing period and may require on site inspection and verification of repairs. The bill sought for adjustment must exceed two times the customer's highest usage in any single billing period during the twelve months prior to the billing period sought for adjustment. If approved, a credit shall be applied to the customer's account after verification of the leak or water systems failure, inspection of water meter and water system, where applicable, and verification of corrective repairs.
